Basin roundup: River Dogs select wins regional championship, advances to world series

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The River Dogs overcame two deficits and a lengthy weather delay Monday to win a regional championship.

Columbia Basin rallied from a three-run hole in the semifinals to beat the Calgary Blues for the second time in two days, 5-4. From there, the River Dogs trailed the Casper Crush 1-0 in the championship game before scoring the next 15 runs to win 15-1.

Columbia Basin inched its way back in the semifinals after falling behind 4-1 against Calgary.

Dominic Signorelli homered and Cody Goodwin hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to one run.

Quincy Vassar tied the game with an RBI double in the fifth inning and Duncan Favor gave the River Dogs the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single of his own.

Tri-City Titans 5-6, Spuds 4-3

KENNEWICK — Central Washington could not quite get over the hump in either game against the Titans and lost 5-4, 6-3 in a road doubleheader.

Tri-City won by way of walk-off in the opener. Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Jackson Ziobro drew a bases-loaded walk and Christian Berry hit a game-winning RBI single.

Wade Visker tripled and had three RBIs for the Spuds.

In Game 2, the Titans broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run fifth inning.

Taylor Johnson tripled and drove in two runs for Tri-City.

Jett Nelson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Spuds.

Locals place at NHSFR

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Soap Lake’s Austin Herrera finished second in bull riding at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo.

Herrera’s average score of 149 was second only to Cole Skender of Crossett, Ark. Skender scored 157 for first place.

Aubree Skone of Warden was 90th in goat tying.
