WENATCHEE — Wenatchee AppleSox starting pitcher Hunter Boyd was in command Wednesday night against the Portland Pickles.

Boyd, a Moses Lake High School graduate, pitched eight scoreless innings in Wenatchee’s 10-1 drubbing of Portland.

Boyd struck out eight batters and allowed just five hits in one of his best starts of the season.

His teammates did their part with run support. The AppleSox pounded out 13 hits for 10 runs, which was highlighted by a four-run sixth inning.

Connor McCord hit a three-run blast in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Portland did itself no favors defensively. The Pickles committed three errors; every run scored on McCord’s homer was unearned.

Portland reliever Joel Casillas had the most issues. Casillas allowed eight runs — only half earned — on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Isaac Barrera and Evan Williams also drove in one run each for the AppleSox.
