Harry Harold Stern

| July 19, 2018 3:00 AM

June 7, 1929 – July 9, 2018

Harry passed with family at his side on Monday, July 9, 2018, after battling COPD and congestive heart failure.

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Stern; mother Emma Rose Roehl; brothers Bob, Ruben and Roger Stern; sisters Esther Walheim and Jenny Oakland and son Clark Stern.

He is survived by his loving bride Joan; son Harold; stepchildren Diane (Bob) Koenig, Linda (Gary) Schultz and Richard Matzke; brothers Art (Noreen), Lester (Laurie) and Clarence Stern; sister Mary Horst; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In 1954, Harry started his radiator business in the old Triangle Texaco station. In 1957, he bought three lots on East Broadway and built his own shop, Harry’s Radiator Shop, Inc., where he became a legend in Moses Lake and among the farming community. His business is still in operation and managed by his son Harold.

Harry had a passion for aviation; he owned and flew a Comanche for several years until health forced him to retire from flying. He was an avid bass fisherman, and in the day got stuck and found more potholes to fish while exploring the south end area in one of his many Scouts. He was also a life member of the Moose Lodge.

In his later years, Harry enjoyed a simple life, watching his backyard come to life. Squirrels, quail, pheasant, deer and the occasional skunk would come feed on the plentiful seeds and nuts he lined the garden with.

Harry was ingenious and creative; there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or build to suit any purpose. Harry was an honest man and expected the same from his family and friends. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Please join the family Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Moses Lake Senior Center at 1 p.m. for a celebration of his life.
