Summer baseball roundup: Spuds take two from the Beetles

MOSES LAKE — Central Washington was able to pick up a crucial sweep of the Yakima Beetles Monday at Larson Playfield.

Ezekyel Ochoa pitched a two-hit shutout and the Spuds took the opener 10-0 in six innings.

The Spuds struck for four runs in the first inning of Game 2 and won comfortably 10-3.

Ochoa received plenty of run support during his outing. Identical to Game 2, the Spuds scored four runs in the first inning of Game 1 to build a sizable lead early.

Zach Valdez and Ochoa both finished 3-for-4 and scored five combined runs.

Moses Lake 5-6, Prosser 12-3

PROSSER — Moses Lake outlasted Prosser in extra innings to salvage a doubleheader split.

The Walleyes lost the first game 12-5 before scoring three runs in the eighth inning to take the second game 6-3.

In Game 2, Andrew Frey singled home Carter Visker for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. Next, John Shea and CJ Ramirez drew consecutive bases-loaded walks for two more runs.

Moses Lake was able to force extra innings after Bryce Hansen scored on an error to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning.

Prosser loaded the bases in the eighth but Kaeden Vasquez was able to retire the side and avoid any damage.

Prosser led 6-1 after three innings in the opener, jumping on Moses Lake starter Shea for two runs in the first. Moses Lake drew within three runs before Prosser scored six in the fourth.

Andrew Frey was 3-for-3 with two runs scored for the Walleyes.
