Manta Ray Aquatics finish top five at home meet
MOSES LAKE — Swimmers came out in droves for the annual Sizzlin’ Summer meet at the Moses Lake Aquatic Center.
The three-day meet saw over 20 teams descend on Moses Lake.
Manta Ray Aquatics (MRA) finished a respectable fifth overall with 221 points; the Spokane Waves Aquatic Team won the meet with a staggering 785.5 points, almost 200 more than the second-place Vancouver Pacific Swim Club.
Incoming sophomore and Class 4A state meet participant Zachary Washburn won multiple events, including the 400 freestyle (4:26.89), the 200 backstroke (2:25.94), the 50 freestyle (25.93) and the 100 backstroke (1:05.90).
Washburn’s Moses Lake High School teammate Noah Heaps won the 15 and over 400 freestyle in 4 minutes, 42.90 seconds as well as the 15 and over 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 6.55 seconds.
In the younger ranks, Marcus Quezada won the 8 and under 50 freestyle in 42.70 seconds. In addition to his win, Quezada also notched five second-place finishes in the 50 backstroke (51.00), 100 butterfly (2:11.65), 50 butterfly (53.11), 100 backstroke (1:46.80) and the 100 freestyle (1:36.50).
Cole Lindberg also picked up a win for MRA in the 13-14 100 butterfly, clocking in at 1:08.12.
In the girls’ events, Laurel Knox took third in the 15 and over 200 butterfly and Aline Davis finished fourth in the 9-10 50 backstroke.
