Mattawa celebrates holiday with annual flag raising ceremony
MATTAWA — Residents of Mattawa gathered early Wednesday morning to celebrate the Fourth of July during the annual flag raising ceremony at Hund Memorial Park.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 94 were on hand to present the colors and raise the flag.
Following the flag raising, Emily Anderson graced the crowd by singing the National Anthem as many attendees removed their caps and sang along.
Mattawa resident Paul Parker then gave his words of wisdom and spoke of his feelings about the American flag.
“The flag means a lot to me,” said Parker. “I was in the service for three years.”
Following the ceremony, attendees were treated to muffins and juice provided by area church members who helped organize the event.
