Water line busts in Soap Lake

SOAP LAKE — Officials in Soap Lake said on Wednesday there is no risk to the public after a water line ruptured in the city on Tuesday.

The water line at Main Avenue West and Evergreen Street North reportedly broke sometime on Tuesday and city staff were able to temporarily fix the issue a few hours later. The line reportedly ruptured again Tuesday evening and about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning contractors and city staff accessed the area of the break. The break was fixed and the water in the line was chlorinated, reads a memo sent out by Soap Lake Finance Director Karen Hand to the council and citizens.

Soap Lake’s Public Works Director, Darrin Fronsman, says citizens “may” want to consider flushing the water lines in their homes.

“Director Fronsman assures everyone that there are no sewer particles in the water line. The two lines are separate and operate separately. The only particles in the water are normal sand and minerals that occur naturally. Breaks such as this are known to stir up the sediment in the water lines, causing household filters/screens to plug up,” Hand wrote.
