High fire danger in Grant County on Friday

| July 12, 2018 2:38 PM

EPHRATA — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Grant County on Friday due to high winds and humidity in the forecast.

The watch is in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., with winds picking up about 1 p.m. and steadily increasing throughout the day. Winds are expected to be between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.

"It will be hot and very dry on Friday...and winds will increase during the day. The combination of hot and dry conditions and breezy winds will threaten areas across south central Washington and central and north central Oregon with rapid fire spread for any new or existing fires," stated the National Weather Service.

In addition to the high winds and gusts, humidity is expected to be somewhere between 8-15 percent and any fires that break out will rapidly spread and grow.
