Summer baseball roundup: Spuds split with Tri-City Titans
MOSES LAKE — The Spuds were on the right and wrong side of shutouts during their doubleheader with the Tri-City Titans.
Austin Valdez scattered nine hits but pitched a complete game, shutout in Central Washington’s 4-0 win in the opener. The Titans answered with Christian Berry in Game 2. Berry tossed a three-hit shutout and the Titans salvaged a split 5-0.
In Game 1, Jeff Nelson put the Spuds on the board with a two-run single in the second inning. Zach Valdez and Ezekyel Ochoa hit back-to-back RBI singles in the third inning.
Despite tagging Austin Valdez for nine hits, the Titans were unable to mount a comeback.
The Titans held a 1-0 lead after six innings before scoring four runs in the seventh of the night cap. Taylor Johnson and Matt Legard had two RBIs each.
Central Washington’s Tre Ramirez finished 2-for-3.
Yakima Valley 1-13, Moses Lake 0-3
SELAH — The Moses Lake Walleyes were swept by the Yakima Valley Peppers 1-0, 13-3.
The Walleyes managed two hits in the opener. Moses Lake starter John Shea allowed six hits over six innings.
