Wildfire burning near Quincy Lakes

| July 1, 2018 9:54 PM

QUINCY — A Level 1 evacuation notice was issued Sunday evening for homes south of a wildfire burning in the Quincy Lakes area.

The fire started between 5:30 and 6 p.m., according to Kyle Foreman with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. It was estimated at 100 acres and was mostly located in a wildlife refuge, and personnel from four fire departments were on the scene. All residents had been notified, he added, and as of press time there was no danger to any homes.

A Level 1 evacuation notice is simply a warning that a fire may be moving toward residents, and to be ready to leave if the danger escalates.

Another fire, which had broken out Saturday in the Beverly-Burke/Frenchman Hills area, had been extinguished by Sunday evening, Foreman said.
