MOSES LAKE — Court documents indicate a Moses Lake man brutally assaulted his girlfriend over the course of six hours in Moses Lake last week.

Grant County prosecutors charged Alex Alvizurez, 27, of Moses Lake, in Grant County Superior Court with second-degree assault-domestic violence and unlawful imprisonment. Prosecutors filed a charge of second-degree assault-domestic violence in the alternative to the first charge.

The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 22, when Alvizurez approached his girlfriend and asked her if there was anything she wanted to tell him with regard to a phone he found in a box. The girlfriend told Alvizurez the phone was an old one from a previous relationship and she proceeded to take the phone, which Alvizurez was charging, and throw it in some water, according to court documents.

The girlfriend says she handed the wet phone to Alvizurez and he started to get angry. Alvizurez reportedly followed the victim into her room and started to yell at her. After he was done yelling, Alvizurez took the victim’s phone, wallet and car keys and left their residence.

Alvizurez later returned to the residence and asked his girlfriend what was on the phone. Alvizurez’ girlfriend again told him the phone was from a previous relationship, but he allegedly took off his belt and struck the woman with his metal belt buckle. Alvizurez allegedly continued to assault the woman over the course of the next six hours.

“(The victim) stated Alvizurez continued to ask her what was on the phone and when she would answer ‘nothing’ or ‘I don’t know,’ he would strike her with the belt and the back of his hand. (The victim) stated at one point Alvizurez was standing over her and punching her with both hands in the face and on her body,” wrote a MLPD officer.

At some point Alvizurez allegedly used a “heavy-duty” workout band to strike and choke the woman. Alvizurez later reportedly duct-taped the woman’s feet together and attempted to tape her hands together. The victim was told to go outside because they were going to leave, but she reportedly fell to the floor and was able to free her feet from the duct tape.

“Alvizurez then attempted to cut (the victim’s) hair with scissors and proceeded to attempt to stick the scissors into her stomach. (The victim) stated she was eventually able to kick Alvizurez off of her,” wrote an officer.

The victim was able to send off a text message to her mother, who arrived at the residence “within” a few seconds and Alvizurez fled the home out of the back door when he saw her pull up. The victim told police Alvizurez is a known gang member and uses methamphetamine and heroin. Alvizurez was taken into custody on Friday in the 800 block of South Ironwood Drive. He is currently being held in the Grant County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000.
