Domestic violence suspect arrested in Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE — A man who allegedly tortured, assaulted and threatened to kill a woman in Moses Lake was arrested last week after attempting to run away from police on Friday.
On Aug. 24 the Moses Lake Police Department received a report from a female who was allegedly injured during a domestic violence situation. The victim claimed 27-year-old Alex Alvizurez “significantly” assaulted her and threatened to kill her, according to MLPD Capt. Mike Williams. MLPD officers were not able to apprehend the suspect however, as he fled the area prior to officers arriving at the scene.
“Since he was not in custody, Alvizurez posed a serious threat to the safety of the victim, and she was relocated and a police officer was stationed at her work place to assure her safety,” Williams said.
Officers began searching for Alvizurez, who is familiar to local enforcement officers and had a Department of Corrections warrant out for his arrest, but did not receive cooperation from his family, who claimed he fled the area for California. MLPD Street Crimes officers located Alvizurez on Friday near where the assault victim works. Upon spotting the cops, Alvizurez attempted to flee the area of foot. A short foot pursuit ensued and Alvizurez was taken to the ground in the backyard of a residence.
“Karma being what it is, Alvizurez landed in a large pile of dog feces,” Williams remarked.
Alvizurez was booked into the Grant County Jail for first-degree assault-domestic violence, second-degree assault-domestic violence, second-degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and harassment.
“The MLPD Street Crimes Unit is composed of detectives that conduct proactive operations to put criminals in jail and reduce crime in Moses Lake,” Williams explained. “After a hiatus due to a lack of manpower, the unit has recently been set back up, and is actively conducting investigations.”
