Prep roundup: Ephrata closes dual schedule with blowout over Grandview
EPHRATA — Ephrata benefited from seven forfeits and blew out Grandview 66-12.
Grandview’s Ian Campuzano edged Juan Mendoza 5-1 at 138 pounds, the opening match, for the Greyhounds’ only lead. Down 3-0, Ephrata won the next 11 matches — seven by forfeit.
Valerio Placido and Corbin Sager won by fall before Grandview forfeited five weights in a row.
Efrain Bedolla and Kelvin Sager pinned their opponents. Grandview then forfeited 113 and 120 pounds.
Ephrata next wrestles at the District 5/6 Wrestling Tournament at Ellensburg Feb. 2 and 3.

Warden 40, Connell 33
CONNELL — Warden head coach Brent Cox felt a little nostalgic after Warden’s dual with Connell.
A dormant rivalry was reignited Thursday as Warden outlasted Connell 40-33.
“It took me back to the 90s,” he said.
The Cougars adjusted their lineup to best match up with the Eagles and it paid dividends. A key decision came at 126 pounds when Warden’s Edgar Hernandez won by technical fall over Mason Holst 20-4.
Boys basketball
Moses Lake Christian 45, Entiat 42
ENTIAT — Moses Lake Christian (8-1, 11-3) maintained its lead in the Central Washington 1B league with a road win at Entiat 45-42.
Tied 42-42 late in the fourth quarter, MLCA point guard Pierre Boorman passed to Walt Meise who scored the go-ahead basket. Moses Lake Christian forced an errant shot on defense and Cole Francisco made 1-of-2 free throws to ice the game.
Meise scored 16 points and Boorman added 14.
Soap Lake 57, Waterville 55
SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake kept its playoff hopes alive with a come-from-behind win over Waterville 57-55.
The Eagles (4-8, 6-8) erased a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Eddie Patino, who totaled 11 points, came up with crucial steals in the final period and made the go-ahead basket.
Klay Northup’s 15 points paced the Eagles who had four players score in double figures. Deezy Bentley and Isaiah Ewing added 11 and 12 points, each.

Waterville 57, Soap Lake 35
SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake could not keep pace with Waterville in the second half and lost 57-35.
The Eagles (3-9, 4-10) only trailed by five at halftime, but were outscored 32-15 in the second half.
Tracie Delgado scored a team-high 12 points.
