MOSES LAKE — A wanted felon was taken into custody in Moses Lake Thursday morning with the help of one of the Grant County Sheriff's Office’s four-legged deputies.

About 9:30 a.m. Cesar Adame, 35, reportedly ran away from officers in the 1100 block of East Hill Street. Police were seeking Adame for a probation violation for assault of a police officer. The Moses Lake Police Department says Adame has a history of violent offenses and violations involving guns.

Adame reportedly hopped a couple of fences and barricaded himself in a shed. K-9 Edo and his handler, Deputy Tyson Voss, responded to the area and Edo reportedly picked up Adame’s trail and led officers to the shed where he was hiding. Adame was told to come out of the shed and that Edo was present, but he did not respond. Edo was sent into the shed and Adame reportedly received minor bite wounds. He eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect had his bite wounds treated by medical personnel and he was later booked into the Grant County Jail.

“This incident illustrates not only the close working relationship that we have with the Sheriff’s Office, but also the value of a patrol K-9. Without the Edo, taking Adame into custody would have been very time and manpower intensive, and placed the officers in significantly more danger,” MLPD Capt. Mike Williams explained.

Williams said the MLPD is in the process of starting its own K-9 program, which is projected to be up and running sometime this year.
