RITZVILLE — A Montana woman died in a single-vehicle collision near Ritzville early Thursday morning.

About 5:50 a.m. Samuel Pernell, 61, of Spokane, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck west on Interstate 90, about 15 miles east of Ritzville, when the vehicle began to rotate. The truck reportedly left the highway, rolled and Pernell’s passenger, Jolene Swan, 53, of Great Falls, Mont., was ejected out of the vehicle. The Chevy came to a rest on its left side, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Swan died at the scene of the collision. Pernell was injured and transported to East Adams Rural Hospital in Ritzville for treatment. The patrol reported Pernell was cited for speeding too fast for conditions. Pernell and Swan were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
