OTHELLO — An Othello man will be spending 10 years in prison in connection with a June shooting that left a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

On June 24 the Othello Police Department responded to Othello Community Hospital after a 17-year-old boy was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. The victim was airlifted to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for additional treatment.

The shooting itself reportedly occurred near the intersection of South 13th Avenue and East Oak Street. The OPD investigated the incident and identified the shooter as Adrian Anguiano, of Othello, who was 17 at the time of the shooting. The OPD says Anguiano fired at least one shot from a pistol at the victim and fled the scene.

Anguiano was spotted near the area of South Broadway Avenue and East Scootney Street on June 26 and he reportedly attempted to flee the area on foot. Anguiano was taken into custody by Othello officers and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force after a short foot pursuit.

The suspect was booked into the Adams County Jail on charges of first-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. On Monday Anguiano entered guilty pleas in Adams County Superior Court to second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He was given the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The OPD says Anguiano’s juvenile girlfriend assisted Anguiano in hiding and evading police after the shooting. She was reportedly taken into custody on Monday and booked into Martin Hall Juvenile Detention Facility for first-degree rendering criminal assistance.
