MLFD: Commercial building fire stemmed from electrical problem

| January 23, 2018 2:42 PM

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Fire Department says an electrical problem is to blame for a fire at a commercial building on Sunday.

Fire Marshal Derek Beach says the fire, which broke out at the Western Building in 400 block of West Broadway Avenue, burned for quite awhile before anyone noticed smoke coming out of the back of the building about 11:30 a.m.

The fire is believed to have started on the lower floor of the building, but firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the flames before they spread to other sections of the building.

There was some structural and smoke-related damage to the inside of the building, but the structure itself is not a complete loss. Fire crews remained at the scene until about 4:30 p.m. Beach said the fire was caused by some sort of an electrical issue. The was no reported injuries.
