OTHELLO — East Columbia Basin Irrigation District landowners will vote on a proposal to reconfigure the board of directors from five seats to seven seats.

The election is scheduled for Feb. 8.

Landowners in the district had filed a petition asking for the change, according to a press release from the district. If the proposal is approved the district would be divided into seven director divisions.

If the change is approved, the current board of directors will stay in office through this year. The seven-member board would be elected in December, the press release said.

Landowners can vote from 1 to 8 p.m. on election day (Feb. 8) at the irrigation district office, 55 North Eighth Ave., Othello. Eligible voters also can vote by absentee ballot.

Qualified voters will be sent an absentee ballot application, which must be filled out and returned. Voters can also request an absentee ballot by calling the district’s main office, 509-488-9671.

People who request absentee ballots will receive them by mail, the press release said. Ballots can be returned to the irrigation district office. Ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked on or before Feb. 8.

People who have questions can contact the district office.
