Victim in Quincy car-pedestrian collision identified
QUINCY — A contracted surveyor who was struck by an SUV in Quincy on Wednesday was identified as 48-year-old Leonel Castillo, of La Grande, Ore.
Castillo was reportedly working in the lanes of state Route 28, in Quincy, when he was struck by a 2001 Ford Excursion driven by Maria Prada, 42, of Quincy. Prada reportedly entered SR-28 from Fourth Avenue South and claims she did not see Castillo before she struck him.
On Thursday Castillo was reported to be in critical, but stable condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reports Castillo was wearing an orange traffic vest and had a traffic cone deployed.
Drugs and/or alcohol did not play a role in the accident. The Grant County Sheriff’s Motor Traffic Unit is still investigating the collision, but charges are not expected to be filed against Prada.
