End of seasons are news of the week

The last day of the pheasant season is Monday Jan. 15. The limit is three roosters a day. The quail season also ends on Monday, with a bag limit of 10 birds a day. The chukar and Hun season closes on Monday also. The limit is six chukar and six Huns a day.

The duck, coot and snipe season will continue through Jan. 28. The Canada goose season continues tomorrow and Sunday, plus Jan. 15, Wednesday, Jan. 17, the following Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 20 and 21, plus every day from Jan. 22 through Jan. 28. The limit is four Canada geese a day, 10 white-fronted geese a day and six white geese a day.

The cottontail and snowshoe hare seasons will end on March 15, with a limit of five a day. Also closing on March 15 are the fox, bobcat and racoon seasons.

The cougar season is a bit more complicated. The late cougar hunting season, started on Jan. 1. However, hunters need to check with Fish and Wildlife to make sure the unit or units are still open to hunting. Basically, when a quota is reached, the unit closes to cougar hunting.

The cougar season continues through April 30, but hunters need to purchase a 2018 hunting license and cougar tag to hunt in April, as the 2017 licenses and tags are valid through March 31, 2018.
