April 23, 1948 – December 31, 2017

Howard “Will” Lewis Scott passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 31, 2017. Will was born on April 23, 1948 in Spokane, Wash. to Howard Norman Scott and Marilyn Christine Moller. Will graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1966 and attended the University of Washington and Central Washington University, where he received undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Philosophy. Will met Patricia Anderson in Ellensburg inthe fall of 1968. They fell in love and married on June 11, 1970. Will and Patty settled down on the South Hill in Spokane, where they raised their two daughters, Amy and Samantha.

In 1992 Will earned his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University. For the next 25 years, Will focused his career in service to youth with complex needs in Spokane and Moses Lake as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (Pathology). His dedication, compassion and expertise guided and helped hundreds of youth and their families. He leaves a legacy of profound care to those most in need.

Will was loved and admired throughout his life for his vast intellectual prowess in every topic imaginable, his laid-back attitude, his strong desire to support and motivate those around him without judgment, his no-nonsense practicality and his passion for video games, poker, golf, classical guitar, music and fixing anything from cars to houses. He loved extended stays on Lake Roosevelt where he rock-jumped, gave exhilarating rides on the ski boat, and contemplated life while sunbathing on the beach, whether by himself or with friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Patricia; siblings Jeanne Abba, Kathleen Kovis, Joan (John) McCoury, Karla (Floyd) Brown, Patricia Scott and Darrell Scott; daughters Amy (Patrick) Durocher and Samantha (Mike) Woogerd; adoring grandchildren Luca, Sydney, Jordan and Leo and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Aug. 11 at Lake Roosevelt for those who want to enjoy one of his favorite places on earth. Details to follow. Guestbook: www.riplingerfuneralhome.com.
