Summer jobs available for teens

LACEY — It may not be the most glamorous summer job ever, but teenagers can make a little extra money over the summer by picking up litter and protecting the environment with the Ecology Youth Corps (EYC).

Applications, which are due by early April, for interested teens can be obtained by visiting www.ecology.wa.gov/eyc. Chosen teens usually work on a crew near where they live and can earn $11.50 an hour for a four-week session in early or late summer. The EYC, which is organized by the state Department of Ecology, has 30 crews across the state. In 2017 EYC members cleaned over 5,000 miles of roads across the state and gathered over 1.1 million pounds of litter.

“The Ecology Youth Corps is a terrific first job for young people, and it’s a way they can give back by protecting the environment in their communities,” Peter Christiansen, who oversees the EYC for the DOE, said.
