Basketball roundup: Moses Lake girls defend district championship
MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake used its depth to rack up another district championship, beating Sunnyside for the third time this season 62-49.
Jamie Loera and Abby Rathbun, the usual suspects, scored 15 and 14 points, respectively. However, fellow starter Ellie Mayo scored 12 points and Kiera McPartland had seven.
Madisyn Clark chipped in eight points off the bench.
The Chiefs reached the district championship game after routing West Valley in the district semifinals on Friday 68-47.
Regional: No. 4 Moses Lake vs. No. 5 Woodinville, Feb. 23, 6 p.m., at Ellensburg High School.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 52, Curlew 38
SPOKANE — Almira/Coulee-Hartline led 26-10 at halftime and breezed to a district championship over Curlew 52-38.
Gabi Isaak paced the Warriors with 17 points.
Regional: No. 7 ACH vs. No. 2 Pomeroy, Feb. 24, 8 p.m., at Pullman High School.
Boys basketball
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 58, Wellpinit 57 (OT)
SPOKANE — Maguire Isaak scored a lay-up with four seconds and Almira/Coulee-Hartline outlasted Wellpinit for the district championship 58-57.
Wellpinit took a one-point lead with 20 seconds left before Isaak’s heroics.
Regional: No. 8 ACH vs. No. 1 Sunnyside Christian, Feb. 23, 8 p.m., at Eisenhower High School.
Royal 59, Wahluke 54
MATTAWA — Royal finished third at the SCAC district tournament after beating league rival Wahluke 59-54.
Regional: No. 4 Royal vs. No. 5 Bellevue Chriistian, Feb. 24, 2 p.m., at Ellensburg High School.
No. 10 Wahluke vs. No. 15 King’s Way Christian, Feb. 24, 2 p.m., at Eisenhower High School.
Men’s basketball
Big Bend 107, Columbia Basin 65
MOSES LAKE — Big Bend led by 22 at halftime and handled Columbia Basin 107-65.
DeAngelo Stowers scored 22 points and Mauricio Smith added 21 off the bench. Koby Huerta, Miles Brown and Christopher Hawkins also scored in double figures.
Big Bend trails Yakima Valley and Wenatchee Valley by one in the loss column for fourth in the NWAC East.
Women’s basketball
Columbia Basin 82, Big Bend 61
MOSES LAKE — Big Bend could not corral Columbia Basin and lost 82-61.
Sunnie Martinez scored a team-high 17 points.
The loss dropped the Vikings to fifth in the NWAC East, one in the loss column behind Treasure Valley.
