Distinguished Young Woman orientation moved to Frontier Middle School
MOSES LAKE — The orientation sessions for junior high school girls interested in participating in the Distinguished Young Women program have been moved to Frontier Middle School cafeteria.
The two sessions will be the same time and date, 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The information is the same at both sessions, so girls can attend either one, and should bring a parent or guardian with them.
Orientation was scheduled for Chief Moses Middle School, but a Moses Lake School District schedule change prompted the move to a new location, said program organizer Bonnie Dorris.
The 2018 pageant is scheduled for April 7 at the Moses Lake High School theater. “Glitz and Glam” is the 2018 theme. Practices begin about a month before the program, which is one of the subjects discussed at the orientation meetings.
Participants go through scholastic assessment and an interview with the judges prior to the program. All participants perform an individual routine designed to highlight their talents, and answer an individual question. There’s also a group fitness routine.
The winner competes in the state Distinguished Young Women program in August, and the winner of that advances to the national program. The winner also appears at events in town and around the state. A number of college scholarships are awarded to the participants.
