Basin roundup: Moses Lake native Serrano signs contract with Sounders FC 2

SEATTLE — Moses Lake native Ray Serrano, 15, is now a professional soccer player.

The Seattle Sounders FC 2 announced Wednesday that it had signed Serrano and defender Ibrahim Usman.

Serrano had played with the Sounders Academy and became the youngest signing in club history. With the U17 squad, Serrano totaled 17 goals and six assists in 17 games. Those numbers include a hat trick against Barca Academy AZ.

The Seattle Sounders FC 2 is the reserve team for the Seattle Sounders FC and competes in the United Soccer League, a notch below Major League Soccer.

Big Bend 84, North Idaho 82

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Big Bend men’s basketball stayed in the playoff hunt with a road with against North Idaho 84-82.

Koby Huerta led the Runnin’ Vikes with 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Mauricio Smith (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Miles Brown (13 points, 11 rebounds) added double-doubles.

Women’s basketball

Big Bend 88, North Idaho 85

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Big Bend held off a late surge from North Idaho and won 88-85.

Miranda Johnson went off for 36 points, including eight 3-pointers.

The win moved Big Bend into fourth.
