Shrove Tuesday Community Pancake Dinner coming up
Pilgrim Lutheran Church invites all community members to their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner Feb.13, from 5-7 p.m. There will be a free-will offering with the proceeds going to support our local Hospice and the ELCA Water Well Project.
Shrove Tuesday is the last day for feasting before the start of Lent. It is the day before Ash Wednesday where people would “shrive” or confess their sins to the priest. Since meat, milk, butter and sugar were forbidden during the Lenten fast, pancakes were served as an easy way for the family to use up these items.
Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is celebrated in New Orleans and other parts of the world as the last day for feasting and partying before Lent. Whether we call it Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday, the public is invited to participate in the traditional feast of pancakes, sausages, and fruit. We hope to see you there
The public is also invited to the Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. the following evening Feb.14.
