Basin roundup: Moses Lake girls complete undefeated regular season

YAKIMA — Moses Lake left little to chance Friday at Davis.

The Chiefs led 37-12 at halftime, beating the Pirates 63-30 to finish the regular season a spotless 20-0.

Jamie Loera led all scorers with 23 points and Abby Rathbun added 11 points.

The Chiefs, who allowed only 26.8 points per game over the second half of the Columbia Basin Big Nine schedule, kept every Pirate out of double figure scoring.

Moses Lake will either play West Valley or Eastmont in the CBBN district semifinals Feb. 16, 7 p.m., at home.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 55, Inchelium 33

DEER PARK — Almira/Coulee-Hartline outscored Inchelium 23-9 in the fourth quarter to win its district semifinal game 55-33.

Gabi Isaak posted a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds; Tiffany Boutain scored 11 points.

ACH plays Curlew for the district championship Feb. 16 at Deer Park High School.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 46, Wilbur-Creston 24

SPOKANE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague stayed alive in the postseason with a win over Wilbur-Creston 46-24.

Julia Klein erupted for 24 of the Broncos’ 46 points.

LRS meets Asotin at West Valley High School Tuesday for a loser-out game.

Boys basketball

Davis 69, Moses Lake 57

YAKIMA — Moses Lake could not keep pace in the second half against fifth-ranked Davis and lost 69-57.

The duo of Alexzander Delgado and Collin Kelley led the Pirates. Delgado scored a game-high 34 points and Kelley added 20.

Kyle Karstetter led Moses Lake with 15 points.

The loss dropped Moses Lake to No. 4 in the CBBN. The Chiefs will host West Valley Tuesday, 7 p.m., in a district play-in game.

Naches Valley 69, Royal 54

KENNEWICK — Royal was outscored 26-8 in the third quarter and lost its district semifinal game against Naches Valley 69-54.

The Rangers’ big third quarter blew open a game that was tied 36-36 at halftime.

Owen Ellis led the Knights with 17 points.

Royal faces Granger in a loser-out game Feb. 15 at Columbia High School.

Zillah 105, Wahluke 65

KENNEWICK — Zillah turned on the jets in the second half and routed Wahluke 105-65.

The Leopards trailed 36-33 at halftime before scoring 72 points in the second half.

Ricardo Cabrera and Sergio Pineda paced the Warriors with 29 and 16 points, respectively.

Zillah’s Antonio Salinas poured in 32 points and added 10 rebounds.

Wahluke plays Connell Feb. 15 at River View High School in a loser-out game.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 50, Cusick 37

DEER PARK — Almira/Coulee-Hartline locked down defensively early and beat Cusick 50-37 to advance to the district championship game.

The Warriors led 26-15 at halftime and held Cusick to five first-quarter points.

Maguire Isaak scored 18 points, Payton Nielsen had 13 and Hayden Loomis chipped in 11.

Men’s basketball

Walla Walla 69, Big Bend 63

WALLA WALLA — Big Bend’s playoff hopes were dealt a blow after a loss to Walla Walla 69-63.

The Runnin’ Vikes dropped to 6-6 in the NWAC East and are two in the loss column behind fourth-place Wenatchee Valley.

Mauricio Smith led Big Bend with 22 points off the bench.

Women’s basketball

Walla Walla 96, Big Bend 46

WALLA WALLA — Big Bend had no answers for first-place Walla Walla and lost 96-46.

Sunnie Martinez was the only Viking to break double figures, scoring 12 points.

Walla Wall’a Cierra Jo McKeown, who is headed to UC-Davis, totaled 22 points, six rebounds and four assists.
