Government shutdown hurt veterans

| February 1, 2018 2:00 AM

When Washington can’t act like grown-ups and compromise, and shuts down the government, then nobody in Washington should receive a paycheck. When they shut down the government, neither veterans nor their families receive a paycheck. Everybody loves to say they care about and appreciate our veterans, but when you close down the government that’s not caring for veterans, that’s hurting veterans. Other countries treat their veterans much better than America, and that’s a downright disgrace to treat someone who protected us this way. With Washington’s lips they say they care for our veterans, but their actions and deeds prove different.

One more thing: I hate when Republicans call people on Social Security lazy and takers. People have worked their bodies sick and down for their Social Security. There’s nothing lazy about them and it’s mean-spirited to call them lazy.

Both parties make promises they can’t and don’t keep. Everybody in Washington needs to humble themselves and compromise. When Americans put their veterans first again, then America will be great again. When Americans see no homeless, hungry veterans, then America will be great again. We can’t abandon nor neglect our veterans who put themselves in danger so we can be free and happy. To every veteran and their families, thank you all for every sacrifice. Things will get better for veterans.
