Chester (Chet) Pedersen
March 25, 1942 – December 1, 2018
Chester (Chet) Pedersen, 76, passed away at his home in Quincy on Saturday, December 1. He was born March 25, 1942 in Ellensburg Washington to Marius and Della (Johnson) Pedersen. He attended elementary school in the Badger Pocket area of Ellensburg (Denmark Grade School) He attended Ellensburg High School and was an outstanding leader in his school’s FFA program. Chet went on to graduate from WSU in 1964 with a degree in Agronomy. He was employed as an Agronomist for several years before starting his own business in the Columbia Basin (Columbia Agriculture Consultants). His career as an Agronomist was an extension of his family history. His parents farmed in Badger Pocket, his maternal grandparents farmed in Woldale, and his paternal grandparents maintained the family farm in Langeland, Denmark.
Chet has been a member of the Quincy Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Port Commissioner of Quincy, served on the Columbia Basin Development League, served on the Big Bend Community College Foundation Board, has served as Farmer Consumer Awareness Day (FCAD) Chairman since its beginning 38 years ago. It was truly an honor for him to serve as chairman and he loved the committee members that he worked with. He was a member of the Washington State Farm Bureau. Chet was also a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity at WSU. He served on the Quincy Beautification Board and was instrumental in the planting of many beautiful flowers throughout the city. Chet spent many summer evenings after work cultivating and watering the city flower beds. He loved the Quincy community and had a strong commitment to serve.
Chet loved anything that had to do with agriculture. He took great pride in the lifelong relationships that he developed with the farmers in the Columbia Basin Area.
If Chet had a spare moment, he tended to his own beautiful bountiful garden and beautiful flower beds at his residence.
Chet placed high priority on family gatherings and had a great capacity for giving. His joy came from watching the young ones delighted with their gifts.
Chet is survived by two sisters Linda Pedersen of Ellensburg and Barbara Rodden and husband Rick Rodden of Yakima; three nieces Barbara Joy (John) Paloy , Linda Renee Mann and Julie Kay (Jeff) Tobin and four grandnieces and grandnephew Della Anne and Henry Paloy and Molly, Madelyn and MacKenzie Tobin.
