Homelessness driven by high housing costs, judgmentalism

| December 20, 2018 2:00 AM

It’s so sad how residents feel about homeless people all over Grant County. Well, the cost of living has gone up and mane can’t afford first and last month’s rent, deposits and background checks. Nobody knows the history of many people. I’ve been there and all these programs you state provide housing – really? For years when I applied I was never able to get into housing.

A lot of disabled families, many with their children, are living in cars and tents. You think we want to live like that? No, but we’re judged because of background checks. The government gives all these low-income housing projects money and really, who lives there?

You talk about what it costs for shelter, but what does it cost to house innocent people in prison? Many want to hide the truth and the community only wants to hear one side, but you can’t hide the problem. Many landlords take advantage of those in need. As long as you can’t see, the community is OK. Who cares? Take from the poor as long as you live high and mighty.
