Book-It Theater to perform in Ephrata

EPHRATA — Four north central Washington libraries, including Ephrata, will be enlivened during the week of Christmas vacation by a performance of the Book-It Repertory Theater.
The company will perform its adaptation of “The Upside-Down Boy” at 11 a.m. Dec. 27 at the Ephrata Public Library, 45 Northwest Alder St. “The Upside-Down Boy” is based on the book by Juan Felipe Herrera.
The troupe’s visit is sponsored by the North Central Regional Library. Admission is free.
Juanito and his family have moved from the country to town, and now his life is kind of out of whack. A new school and new routine, new friends, a new language – it’s all pretty strange. But with the help of his family and a supportive teacher, Juanito learns the new place might just be okay.
The Book-It Theater is a Seattle-based company that has become a familiar sight in north central Washington libraries, performing frequently throughout the NCRL system. Dramatizations based on books are part of the company’s repertoire. The traveling troupe focuses on works for children; the company also performs adapted and original works for adults at its Seattle theater. The traveling troupe takes a minimalist approach – actors change costume while the action is going on, and props are in boxes that double as scenery when necessary.
Three other performances are scheduled for Dec. 27 and 28, in Waterville, Okanogan and Tonasket.
