Wrestling roundup: Othello puts two on podium at Tri-State Tournament

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Othello’s Isaiah Perez reached the semifinals of the Tri-State Tournament in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, however, the Husky heavyweight lost to a pair of Central Valley of Spokane Valley teammates to finish fourth.

Braxton Mikesell, the second-ranked heavyweight in Class 4A, edged Perez 6-4 in the semifinals and would go on to win the tournament. In the consolation finals, Wyatt Wickham of Central Valley was able to find some separation to beat Perez 6-0.

In addition to Perez, Elijah Roylance took third place at 220 pounds to finish third and Othello scored 102 points to take 12th in the team standings.

Roylance advanced to the quarterfinals before losing by fall to Ben Voightlaender of Mead — another eventual champion. Roylance rallied to pin Kamiakin’s Ben Hollenberg in the consolation finals.

Mead had six placers, two runners-up and one champion to capture the team title with 183.5 points. Post Falls (177) and Chiawana (159) finished second and third, respectively.

Moses Lake totaled 92.5 points to finish 14th and Royal scored 25 points for 45th.

Riley Burgess (113) and Maximus Zamora (126) both reached the Tri-State quarterfinals for the Chiefs. Burgess finished fourth and Zamora was seventh. Burgess was pinned by Mt. Spokane’s Jarret Sharp in the quarterfinals and also lose to Sharp in the consolation final 16-0.
