The Royal City Council is going to enter the new year short one councilmember, and is currently soliciting applications from individuals interested in filling the position.

Current councilmember Hollin Garnick has announced her intention to resign from the position by the end of the year, leaving her seat vacant. The other four councilmembers can choose among applicants to appoint a person to the seat, or they could leave the seat vacant until the upcoming election.

If a candidate is appointed, they will serve until the Nov. 2019 election. If they run for election and win, they will continue to serve both the rest of 2019 and a full four-year term after that, ending in Jan. 2024, according to Grant County election officials. If the appointed councilmember isn’t appointed, doesn’t run for election or else loses their election, the person that wins the 2019 election will serve both the rest of 2019 as well as a subsequent four-year term.

Individuals who wish to apply for the position can contact city hall at 509-346-2263 or contact Finance Director Shilo Christensen directly.
