Facts from the past gleaned from the Moses Lake Herald, Columbia Basin Herald and The Neppel Record by Cheryl (Driggs) Elkins:

From the CBH on April 1, 1949:

USO to take over building April 15

Representatives of the USO will arrive in Moses Lake April 15 to take possession of the Roller Dome building, according to word received this week by Mel Zornes.

New York USO headquarters advised Zornes Wednesday that the lease on the building had been approved, but did not announce the names of the staff or the opening date.

Dennis note: OK, where was the Roller Dome? Couldn’t have been what we knew as the Roller-Skating Rink or the Skating Rink in the 1960s could it? If not, where was it located?

Organ installed in Base chapel

Supplies and new equipment are beginning to arrive at Moses Lake Air Force Base for use in the wing chapel. The newest piece of equipment is a Hammond organ, which was installed in the organ and choir loft March 22nd. Plans are underway to secure carpeting and drapes with which to beautify the chapel.

Chaplain (Maj.) Francis E. Meade and Chaplain (Capt.) Connor G. Cole conduct Catholic and Protestant services, respectively, in the chapel. Mass is said at 10 a.m. and Protestant services are held at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The public is cordially invited to attend.

From the CBH on Dec. 8, 1981:

Actors planning visits to Moses Lake classes

A team of Shakespearean actors from the Oregon Shakespearean Festival will be the guests of Chief Moses Junior High School and Moses Lake High School Thursday and Friday as part of the group’s 11th Annual School Visit Program.

Actors Richard Poe and Philip Davidson, one of nine two-man teams touring towns in the Northwest, will present a program to classes and school assemblies at Chief Moses and MLHS focusing on Shakespeare, American literature and world theatre. The actors will present a program for the public at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wallenstien Preforming Arts Center at Big Bend Community College.
