MOSES LAKE — A recent donation to the Moses Lake Food Bank benefited the Big Bend Community College Foundation as well.

The “Pick Your Pantry” donation was among the auction items at Cellarbration 2018, the annual fundraising dinner for the BBCC Foundation. Proceeds from Cellarbration go toward the foundation’s scholarship program.

Items included in “Pick Your Pantry” were donated by local farms and food processors. Don McGraw of Columbia Colstor was the winning bidder, and could designate a recipient for the donations. He chose the food bank.

The food bank will receive 2,000 pounds of potatoes from Hyer Farms/Desert Ridge Packing, 2,000 pounds of fresh yellow onions from Jensen Farms Produce, 200 pounds of frozen vegetables from National Frozen Foods, 150 pounds of Sunburst popcorn from Ken Darling- Maizena & Sunburst and 720 pounds of pinto beans from Columbia Bean and Produce.

Cellarbration 2018 generated $100,205 for scholarships, once all the bills were paid, said foundation director LeAnne Parton, an increase of about $27,000 from Cellarbration 2017. We did amazingly well.”

Parton said she had been at an auction that offered the “Pick Your Pantry” option, and thought it would work for Cellarbration. “Just a way to give back.”

The donation was presented by McGraw and Paul Hirai, who represented the BBCC Foundation.
