Man wounded in officer-involved shooting, booked into jail
LAKEVIEW — The male suspect who was shot in an officer-involved shooting in the Lakeview community on Sunday was booked into jail.
A deputy and officers from Ephrata and Soap Lake were investigating a report of a sighting of a wanted person when the shooting occurred about 10:45 a.m. on Adrian Avenue Northwest in Lakeview near Soap Lake, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
The man who was shot was reportedly not the wanted person. He was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for treatment of a gunshot wound to his lower leg. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was booked into the Grant County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault. The officers were not injured in the incident.
“The shooting is under investigation by the Columbia Basin Investigative Team (CBIT), which includes detectives from the Moses Lake Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Ephrata Police Department. This is common practice for an officer involved shooting,” stated the sheriff’s office in a news release.
The involved officers have been temporarily reassigned to administrative leave with pay, which the GCSO says is a standard procedure. More information, including the names of the involved officers, is expected to be released in the coming days.
