State patrol says deputy not at fault

GEORGE - A Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputy was spared of injuries on Saturday when his patrol car was nailed by a 26-foot long motorhome on Interstate 90 near George.

About 8:15 p.m. Deputy Jose Rivera, 29, of Moses Lake, was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger patrol car west on Interstate 90, about 11 miles east of George, when an eastbound I-90 26-foot long Tioga motorhome driven by Carlos Bonilla, 49, of Auburn, attempted to make a U-turn.

The motorhome struck the patrol car and both of the vehicles came to a rest in the median.

The Washington State Patrol reports neither Rivera or Bonilla were injured in the collision. The Charger sustained reportable damages and was towed from the scene. The motorhome sustained reportable damages as well but was driven from the scene. Bonilla was cited for making an improper U-turn and crossing a barrier, according to the patrol.
