K-9 deputy helps nab assault suspect

LAKEVIEW — K-9 Grizzly aided deputies earlier this week in subduing a suspect who was allegedly involved in an assault that involved a hatchet in the Lakeview Community near Soap Lake.
About 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday deputies received word of an assault with a hatchet in the 100 block of Adrian Avenue Northwest. The motive behind the assault is unclear, but the Grant County Sheriff’s Office reports the 32-year-old male victim was treated and released from a local hospital. Deputies were advised the suspect, 28-year-old Yoban Nunez Diaz, was hiding out at a residence in the 200 block of Ephrata Avenue Northwest.
Deputies responded to the home and a female inside the residence told authorities she wanted Diaz out of the house. K-9 Grizzly and his handler, Deputy Dave De La Rosa, entered the residence and reportedly found Diaz hiding under some blankets.
Diaz refused to surrender and De La Rosa deployed Grizzly, who was able to subdue the suspect, which allowed deputies to take him into custody. Diaz was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for treatment for treatment of dog bites. He was later released from the hospital and booked into the Grant County Jail for the assault and outstanding warrants he had out for his arrest.
