River Dogs fall to Onondaga

JAMESTOWN, NY — The Columbia Basin River Dogs played on with a chance to win, but in the end they were betrayed by an old friend – a defense that has carried them to the brink of greatness.

Columbia Basin (1-2) committed six errors in a 6-5 loss in eight innings to the Western New York state champions Onondaga, who scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The River Dogs, who needed the win to assure a seed in the bracket play, which begins on Thursday, had to slug their way off the ropes a couple of times in a game that finished close to 2 a.m. Eastern Time Wednesday morning at the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, NY.

Zac Berryman drove in three runs in the third inning to give Columbia Basin its first lead and the River Dogs took advantage of a Ondonaga error to regain the lead again in the sixth inning.

Columbia Basin has one more game in the National pool remaining.
