Manweller represents our local values

| August 2, 2018 3:00 AM

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Old-Fashioned Political Rally hosted by the Ephrata Historical Society and the American Legion. We got to hear from almost every candidate running for office.

I’m glad I attended because I learned some surprising things.

Rep. Matt Manweller got up and spoke about the importance of vocational education, making civics a graduation requirement and his opposition to the carbon and income tax.

What caught everyone off guard is when Sylvia Hammond’s supporters started cheering for an income tax, for a $15 minimum wage, free heroin needles, and for gun control. The entire crowd was shocked into silence. Of the 15 or so candidates, only one thought all these Seattle polices would be good for Grant County.

A few speakers later, a candidate called for the adoption of socialized medicine in Washington. And again, the only people who cheered were the supporters of Sylvia Hammond.

I’m glad I attended the event because for the last few months Ms. Hammond has been portraying herself as a “moderate Democrat.” The reality is that she supports extreme left-wing, Seattle-style policies.

I’ll be voting for Rep. Matt Manweller. We know what we are getting with Matt. He reflects our Grant County east side values and works hard for us every day.
