Hammond can bring a welcome change to legislature

| August 2, 2018 3:00 AM

First a big “thank you” to the Grant County Museum in Ephrata for hosting the old-time political rally. It’s one of my favorite summer events.

I heard Matt Manweller’s speech for the third time. It’s the same one he gave last election year and at the last election event this year. It’s the one where he tries to divide our state by saying that the evil Democrats are trying to make Grant County more like Seattle. He paints his opponent as a “socialist” no matter who he is running against. I’m hoping it won’t work this time. Sylvia Hammond is more representative of Grant County than he is.

If you talk to Sylvia Hammond and other Democrats, you’ll find good ideas and a willingness to work with all people. She’s willing to have a dialogue about our differences, not give you the same canned speech. She’s willing to do her homework about issues. Sylvia has the energy and willingness to find common ground with the GOP. And she wasn’t fly fishing an hour before the rally. She was working hard as she will when elected.

It’s time for a change. Even Mr. Manweller admitted he’d rather be fishing. Sylvia Hammond can bring integrity, family values and an open mind to the statehouse. She’s a leader, not a divider.
