ROYAL CITY — Children and teenagers ages 8-18 interested in breaking into theatre and stretching themselves artistically can sign up for the first-ever Columbia Theatre Camp, where attendees can practice their dance, vocal and dramatic skills with guidance from industry professionals.

The camp will be held at the Royal Intermediate School Gym in Royal City, 12-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Participants will be divided into three workshop groups, which will rotate through dance, theatre and vocal instruction. Kids will build their skills and put together skits, dances and musical performances, culminating with an evening variety show for family and the community featuring performances from both campers and instructors.

“We hope to foster a love of the arts among the youth and offer an opportunity for them to see the joy it brings others,” Camp Director Tanner Christensen said. “Being a teenager is hard, and in a time of life where it can be difficult to let go and just be yourself, the arts can empower youth to be more comfortable in their own skin, celebrate differences, and even serve others,”

The camp will feature special guest instructor David Walker, a Broadway performer with several decades of experience. Dave has performed in venues all over the country as a touring

performer in The Music Man, 42nd Street and Aida. He is now the artistic director, a resident director, and a performer at The Playmill Theatre, a professional theatre in West Yellowstone, Montana.

Tanner Christensen, a professional performer with over five years of choral experience and over 400 hours of stage experience, will provide vocal instruction to attendants of the camp. Nancy Christensen, a dance instructor of over 15 years, will offer dance and movement instruction. More guest instructors are to be announced.

Registration for the event is currently $50 and is $65 after Aug. 20th. For further information or to register, contact Christensen by e-mailing chr14022@gmail.com or calling 509-761-2730.
