Candidate filing week begins in mid-May

EPHRATA — If you have ever wanted to run for public office then 2018 might be your year to take the chance. A total of 23 offices are open for election this go-round.

Candidate filing week officially begins at 8 a.m. May 14 and ends at 5 p.m. May 18 for people who file in person on the second floor of the Grant County Courthouse. Electronic filing opens at 9 a.m. May 14 and ends at 4 p.m. May 18. Candidates can start filing by mail on May 1 and all filings will be retained for processing until filing week begins May 14. Most positions require a filing fee, which is required to be paid at the time of filing in cash, check or credit card, if filing online. If candidates wish to withdraw their name they are required to do so before 5 p.m. May 21. Filing fees are non-refundable.

The following 23 offices are open for election in 2018:

U.S. Senator: Six-year term, position currently held by Sen. Maria Cantwell, $1,740 filing fee.

4th Congressional District: Two-year term, position currently held by Rep. Dan Newhouse, $1,740 filing fee.

Washington Supreme Court Justice Position No. 2: Six-year term, position currently held by Justice Susan Owens, $1,866.81 filing fee.

Washington Supreme Court Justice Position No. 8: Six-year term, position currently held by Justice Steve Gonzalez, $1,866.81 filing fee.

Washington Supreme Court Justice Position No. 9: Six-year term, position currently held by Justice Sheryl Gordon McCloud. $1,866.81 filing fee.

12th Legislative District Representative No. 1: Two-year term, position currently held by Rep. Cary Condotta, $477.76 filing fee.

12th Legislative District Representative No. 2: Two-year term, position currently held by Rep. Mike Steele, $477.76 filing fee.

13th Legislative District Senator: Four-year term, position currently held by Sen. Judy Warnick, $477.76 filing fee.

13th Legislative District Representative No. 1: Two-year term, position currently held by Rep. Tom Dent, $477.76 filing fee.

13th Legislative District Representative No. 2: Two-year term, position currently held by Rep. Matt Manweller, $477.76 filing fee.

Grant County Assessor: Four-year term, position currently held by Melissa McKnight, $871.31 filing fee.

Grant County Auditor: Four-year term, position currently held by Michele Jaderlund, $871.31 filing fee.

Grant County Clerk: Four-year term, position currently held by Kimberly A. Allen, $871.31 filing fee.

Grant County District Court Judge No. 1: Four-year term, position currently held by Judge Richard C. Fitterer, $1,610.96 filing fee.

Grant County District Court Judge No. 2: Four-year term, position currently held by Judge Janis Whitener-Moberg, $1,610.96 filing fee.

Grant County District Court Judge No. 3: Four-year term, position currently held by Judge Tyson Hill, $1,610.96 filing fee.

Grant County Commissioner No. 3: Four-year term, position currently held by Cindy Carter, $881.92 filing fee.

Grant County Coroner: Four-year term, position currently held by Craig Morrison, $871.31 filing fee.

Grant County Prosecutor: Four-year term, position currently held by Garth Dano, $1,691.87 filing fee.

Grant County Sheriff: Four-year term, position currently held by Tom Jones, $1,107.67 filing fee.

Grant County Treasurer: Four-year term, position currently held by Darryl Pheasant, $871.31 filing fee.

Grant County PUD District No. 1 Commissioner: Six-year term, position currently held by Terry Brewer, $274.20 filing fee.

Grant County PUD District B Commissioner: Four-year term, position currently held by Bob Bernd, $274.20 filing fee.
