Help spruce up Moses Lake

The Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce’s City Wide Clean-Up is quickly approaching on Saturday, May 5. Between 350 and 500 bags, sponsors, and volunteers are still needed. The chamber is specifically asking for two or three volunteers with pickup trucks to help pick up the bagged garbage. Individuals without trucks can help too. Service clubs, church groups, business associates, friends and neighbors are also encouraged to get involved and help make Moses Lake more appealing.

For those of you who may have problems with picking up others’ messes, we get it. The fact of the matter is, we are left with an even bigger mess if we don’t step up and do our part to keep Moses Lake clean. Think of a messy house left with overflowing garbage bags, dirty dishes, backed-up laundry and a weed-infested lawn. Does a house get cleaner if you just ignore the problem? Absolutely not. More messes get made on top of older messes. Before you know it, you have a problem on your hands.

In the great outdoors, discarded cups, fast food sacks, bottles and paper don’t make for a great first impression for guests. Not just any visitor, mind you, but people who may want to relocate a family or a business. It’s important to keep the mess in check as we see it. There are two ways to do this: pick up garbage throughout the year if you see it, and show up for the City Wide Clean-Up. To those who already do both, we thank you.

The Clean-Up takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, starting at the Porterhouse Restaurant parking lot at 217 N. Elder St., Moses Lake. Route assignments can be picked up at 8:30 a.m. at the Porterhouse’s rear patio area.

There’s a free barbecue lunch provided by the Porterhouse after the work is done.
