Prep roundup: Moses Lake sweeps Sunnyside, sets up showdown with Wenatchee

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake softball continue to hum, sweeping Sunnyside on Friday 12-0 and 17-0.

The two wins improved Moses Lake to 9-0 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine. Wenatchee, who has played one more series, is 12-0. Both teams start a three-game set against each other Tuesday, 4 p.m. at Moses Lake High School.

Against the Grizzlies, Game 1 starter Savannah Ashley scattered three hits over five innings to go with seven strikeouts. Ashley received plenty of run support as the Chiefs rattled off six runs in the third inning and four more runs in the fourth.

Ashley bookended the third-inning scoring barrage with an RBI triple and a bases-loaded walk. Brooklyn Bailey, Laurissa Martinez and Sydney Ries added RBI singles.

The second game was more of the same as the Chiefs led 13-0 after two innings. After no-hitting Sunnyside on Tuesday, pitcher Gina Skinner surrendered one hit in five innings.

Madison Olson continued her stellar freshman season with two hits and four RBI. Brooke Richardson doubled twice.

Ephrata 23-13, Toppenish 0-0

EPHRATA — Ephrata routed Toppenish twice 23-0 and 13-0.

Paige Davis swung the hat bat in the first game, driving in seven runs.

Davis, Rylee Peters and Kylar Heston had three RBI each in Game 2.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 15-13, Cusick 0-0

HARTLINE — Almira/Coulee-Hartline took two from Cusick 15-0 and 13-0.

Sarah Bradshaw struck out six in the opener and Gabi Isaak drove in three runs.

ACH took advantage of seven Cusick errors in Game 2.

Baseball

Moses Lake 16-10, Sunnyside 3-0

SUNNYSIDE — Moses Lake completed a sweep of Sunnyside, moving into a tie with Wenatchee for first in the Columbia Basin Big Nine.

In the opener, Moses Lake scored 16 unanswered runs. Sunnyside attempted to extend the game past five innings with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Ezekyel Ochoa doubled twice, while Kameron Huberdeau and Evan McLean had three RBI each.

Moses Lake begins a three-game series with Wenatchee Tuesday at Rec Park.

Royal 3-7, Columbia 0-6

ROYAL CITY — Royal won a pair of tight games against Columbia 3-0 and 7-6.

Logan Gilbert provided a walk-off hit in Game 2 after Columbia tied the game with four runs in the fifth inning.

Kevin Reyes pitched a complete with five strikeouts.

Warden 20-11, Wahluke 0-1

WARDEN — Warden picked up its first two league wins over Wahluke 20-0 and 11-1.

Working with a huge cushion, Game 1 starter Ryan Arredondo struck out 11 in five innings.

The Cougars led Game 2 9-0 after one innings. Bryce Martinez, Kaden Skone and Wade Visker had two RBI each.

Boys soccer

Ephrata 1, Selah 0

SELAH — Ephrata stunned first-place Selah with a goal in the first half to win 1-0.

The Tigers found the back of the net in the first minute. From there, it was all defense.

Ephrata enters the final week of the regular season in a three-way tie for sixth place with Othello and Ellensburg. Ephrata lost to Ellensburg on March 27 and plays Othello on Thursday.

Naches Valley 1, Warden 0

NACHES VALLEY — After a scoreless first half, Naches Valley was able to score the go-ahead goal in the 45th minute to beat Warden 1-0.

Luis Hernandez scored for the Rangers.
