Elizabeth Guadarrama named Miss Royal City

ROYAL CITY — Elizabeth Guadarrama was named Miss Royal City 2018 at the first ever Miss Royal City program held Saturday night at Red Rock Elementary School.
Joining Guadarrama in this year’s court is first finalist Elizabeth Esparza, and Elsa Trujillo Ramirez who took home the second finalist title.
The theme of the night was “This is Me,” inspired by the movie The Greatest Showman. Longtime Royal City resident, Dain Craver, served as emcee for the evening.
The Miss Royal City program is a scholarship program during which the contestants are judged and awarded in five different categories including scholastics, talent, interview, fitness and self-expression. A “Spirit” award and a “Becoming Your Best Self” award were also given out, each of which were voted on by the contestants themselves.
In total, $5,600 in scholarship money was awarded to the winners Saturday night, which was comprised from generous donations made by community members and businesses.
Guadarrama walked away with the Miss Royal City Title having won all five-judged categories.
Trujillo Ramirez was given the “Spirit” award, and Fernanda Gomez Diaz was awarded the “Becoming Your Best Self.”
Attendees of the Miss Royal City program were also treated to musical numbers from Isabelle Barajas who sang “The Middle,” and musical duet from Lisandro & Elizabeth Barajas.
In keeping with the theme of the program, Alison Gilbert sang “Never Enough” from the movie The Greatest Showman. Miss Mattawa 2018, Ashley Jenne, also performed her talent playing the ukulele.
