MAPD purchases new equipment

MATTAWA — The Mattawa Police Department (MAPD) has added two new squad cars to its fleet along with some much needed equipment upgrades.

A grant from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) covered most of the cost for two new sector scanners and printers. The MAPD spent less than $50 out of pocket to pay the rest explained Mattawa Police Chief, Joe Harris.

A contingency in the WASPC grant specified MAPD could only purchase new gear rather than fix old equipment Harris explained. Through the grant, the MAPD will also be looking to purchase a solar powered, portable feedback sign.

Though not part of the WASPC grant, the MAPD also added two brand new 2018 Ford Interceptors to the squad car fleet. Each of the vehicles have been outfitted with lock boxes, along with the MAPD logo on the doors.
