WARDEN — Coach Arthur de Victoria couldn’t have asked for a better outcome as his Warriors took all three soccer matches played last week.

The team battled always-tough Royal to a 2-1 win at home March 27, blew past Granger 5-1 on the road March 29, and then lambasted Warden in Cougars country 9-0 March 30.

“The match with the Royal Knights is always an anticipated game and we played solid in the first half,” de Victoria said. “Royal came on strong in the second half though and put us on our heels for a bit.

The first goal of the fuss off the foot of Alex Valdez in the 12th minute on an assist from Ricky Cabrera gave the Warriors an early 1-0 lead. The second goal of the half recorded by Cabrera on an assist from Uriel Gomez made it 2-nil Wahluke at the break.

The Knights got back in it on a second half goal from Michael Rojas, but were unable to level the match and Wahluke chalked up the ‘W.’

The Warriors dealt the Spartans a lopsided nonleague loss in the second game of the week. The first Wahluke score of the match came from an unassisted goal in the fifth minute by Yerik Arelliano. Edwin Martinez followed that up with a score in the eighth minute off an assist from Alex Valdez. Arelliano found the back of the Spartan box again at the 52nd minute of action. Alex Valdezes goal off a Fernando Barajas assist came in the 57th minute. Marcos Castro recorded the final Wahluke goal in the 65th minute of play from an Javier Rosales assist.

“The boys played well, and we were in possession of the ball quite a bit,” de Victoria said.

The last game of the week was a blow out win on a windy day over the Warden Cougars.

“The wind was cutting across the field from west to east, which greatly impacted the game as it took us quite a while to get the feel for it,” de Victoria said. “But once we did, we moved the ball quite effectively.”

Alex Valdez was truly the difference maker in this one as he finished with five goals in the contest. Yerik Arelliano, Ricky Cabrera, Jerado Guerreo, and Marcos Castro added a goal each for the Warriors.
