Knights Soccer beats Chelan and College Place, falls to Wahluke

ROYAL CITY — The Knights split league matches with the Hawks and Warriors and took a friendly from the Goats to move to 2-1 in SCAC East Conference league play and 5-3 overall on the early season.
Royal started the week off with a 2-1 road loss to Wahluke March 27. The Warriors taking advantage of a slow start by the Knights scored both goals early in the first half.
“The first goal was due to us being well out of shape,” coach Jens Jensen said. “The second was due to a lack of communication as the Wahluke forward sat in a pocket of space and one timed a cross into the corner — it was a nice goal.”
Jensen said it about the 30th minute before the team was able to settle in and get within a goal at the break. “Right before halftime Michael Rojas picked up a ball and attacked the back line, beating several defenders to finish to the goalkeepers left,” he said. “During the second half we had much more of the ball and a handful of golden chances, hitting the woodwork and missing on a wide open net from 2 -yards out, but the goal never came.”

College Place 0
The Knights rebounded in a big way March 30 with a resounding 6-0 win over College Place.
Royal scored early and often with two of three goals into the wind 13 minutes into the match. The Knights added three second half goals to slam the door shut on the Hawks.
“Miguel Torres scored a hat trick and Lizandro (Hernandez), Alonso (Hernandez) and Martin scored a goal each,” Jensen said. “For Martin, this was his first appearance for the varsity so he had a dream start.”

Michael Rojas was credited with both Knights goals in a shutout win over the Goats in Chelan March 31.
“The first one came off the Chelan keeper who bundled it into his own net and the second was a nice free kick from about 25 yards out,” coach Jens Jensen said. “We really didn’t play very well — struggled with the surface there and looked to have a bit of a hangover from playing College Place the night before.”
Royal, as with the majority of teams are off on spring break this week but gets back in action April 10 in Connell.
