ROYAL CITY — The Knights bats came up big for Royal in the opener with the Cougars as the home team jumped all over the visitors 13- 3.

The Knights got out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning was in the books. Warden posted two in the top of the second but that was all she wrote for the Cougars as Royal reeled off 10 unanswered runs to win it going away. The Knights out hit Warden 14-4. Sawyer Jenks got the nod on the hill for Royal and went 5 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs off 3 hits, while walking 6 and fanning 4 Cougars.

The nightcap was all Warden as the team from up north shutout Royal 8-0. The Cougars hung 2 runs on the board in the top of the second, 3 in the top of the third, and 3 runs over the final two innings to come away with the split. The Knights didn’t help matters much as the team committed five errors in the contest.

Royal moves to 4-3 in SCAC league play and 6-3 overall with the split.

The Knights resume action April 14 with a doubleheader at Kiona-Benton.
